This webinar will provide attendees with tools to assess odors in the atmosphere employing a variety of measurement techniques. These will include odor characterization methods such as dynamic field olfactometry and use of odor panels, field screening instruments as well as methods for compound specific odorant measurements. Steps in the design of odor measurement programs will be presented including program purpose (what is the end use of the data?), odor chemistry (what do we know?), selection of sampling and analyses methodologies, the role and value of monitoring plans and use of quality control measures. The presenters will discuss the value of odor complaint data and its role in the assessment process. In addition, common mistakes often made in odor assessment studies will be discussed and ways to avoid misuse of data. Lastly several case studies will be reviewed to illustrate the use of the information presented for actual monitoring programs.
