The webinar will bring 5 speakers, specializing in measurement, inventory development, health research and regulation. First, technical aspects of developing a black carbon (BC) inventory, mitigation opportunities and challenges will be outlined by the speakers from the U.S. EPA, followed by Alberto Ayala from the California Air Resources Board who will focus on the success story of California's programs as well as the opportunties for additional control. Then Drew Shindell will compare the the benefits of emissions reductions targeting BC with other controls, focusing on the relative magnitude and uncertainty of the climate, health and agricultural yield benefits. Finally, Tony Hansen will talk about the simple, effective, appropriate, well-established and approved analytical methods to monitor BC in order to improve efforts to control emissions.
