Cancelled: South Los Angeles Wetland Park - A New Paradigm in Sustainable Urban Infrastructure
American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists' (AAEES) is hosting this session telling the story of the South Los Angeles Wetland Park Project and the innovative outside the box thinking that earned this project the AAEES Superior Achievement Award in the annual Excellence in Environmental Engineering and Science™ Competition.  The session will be led by Sean Vargas of Psomas, and will focus on the social and political, as well as the technical, challenges faced in creating a sustainable urban park out of what had been a blighted industrial zone.  Most noteworthy are the unexpected upside benefits that the project yielded for the neighborhood and the community of people living there.  This is not your average storm water containment project.
